Philadelphia 76ers

WELLS FARGO CENTER
May 24, 2025 by Luke Anton

The 2024-25 Philadelphia 76ers can be defined by the initial joke of tanking becoming their reality. And then ending up with the No. 3 pick in the draft.

What did we learn?

The Process hit rock bottom.

It was precisely the moment that Daryl Morey liked a picture of Kesha’s ass on Instagram.

Well, not exactly — but that was a Chef’s kiss for an all-time tumultuous season.

But seriously…

This is what Sam Hinkie died for?!

The Sixers 24 wins this season were four less than Embiid’s rookie season in 2016-17, a Sixers season that was infinitely more fun than this one.

This team actually looked fine when they had all of their guys. It just never happened nearly enough to matter. At all.

  • Joel Embiid played a total of 19 games.

  • Paul George played a total of 41 games.

The vibes were sour from the start and they never recovered.

Maxey had his moments, but even Maxey, one of the most stand-up guys in the entire league, was visibly frustrated. It was quite understandable and justified.

Jared McCain was the shining light in Philly. Not since Steph can we remember a 3-point stroke as smooth as this one, bursting onto the scene in flames.

And then McCain was lost for the season in December with a meniscus tear. The ominous signs continued.

But the Christmas upset in Boston actually made us wonder if the Sixers were back from the dead with a semblance of direction and purpose. Then a 7-game losing streak in January was followed by no team in the NBA losing more games in February than the Philadelphia 76ers.

What was originally a joke, that the Sixers should tank to try to keep their draft pick, became actual reality for Philly.

The Sixers handled the execution of that exceptionally well with a record of 4-25 over the last two months.

That was the worst record in the league over that stretch, the best possible tank job you can do, tanker’s delight turned up to the max.

And so maybe, in a strange and deranged way, Sam Hinkie was proud of these Sixers after all.

Additional Notes

  • It’s important to remember that Daryl Morey was praised for his moves last summer. Pieces on paper don’t always work out the way you think.

  • Despite everything, our guy Kelly Oubre played hard and well.

  • Kyle Lowry’s big tush is beyond washed.

  • Quentin Grimes really showed up and balled so hard that he almost ruined the tank. Sixers fans wanted him to go away and stop dropping 40-point games.

  • It’s not a 2024-25 Sixers SZN Rev-U without mentioning Podcast P lmaooo.

Did our preseason Over/Under prediction hit?

All signs to the Sixers taking the regular season lightly. Under 50.5 wins.

Sixers 2024-25 record: (24-58)

Absolutely. Easiest cash of the season, really.

What’s Next?

  • The No. 3 pick in the draft. Is it Ace Bailey or V.J. Edgecombe? Either way, it seems like the move is to keep the pick to help build toward the future.

  • There are some player options on the table for Kelly Oubre, Andre Drummond and Eric Gordon. Guerschon Yabusele is an unrestricted free agent and we know both Daryl and Philly would love to bring Yabu back.

  • Can we get Embiid healthy again? Imagine if he got back to his wrecking-ball MVP ways and everyone else here was able to stay on the court…
