Brooklyn Nets

Barclays Center
May 31, 2025 by Luke Anton

The 2024-25 Brooklyn Nets can be defined as being a Young Surprise Team Roller Coaster.

What did we learn?

The Nets were a beginning of the season Young Surprise Team.

With a preseason Over/Under win total of 19.5, the Nets had a 10-13 record after the first 23 games, leaving teams stunned on a consistent basis.

Problem: Brooklyn didn’t want to be winning basketball games.

To the point that a week later they traded olympic Dennis Schroder to blow it up early.

The Nets immediately descended to a record of 4-23 over the next 27 games as the Young Surprise Team train crashed by design.

Except then it started running again!

Overlapping the All-Star Break, the Nets won 7 of 9, continuing the fight they started at the beginning of the season.

And then they faded out once more, closing the season 5-21 over the final two months.

Brooklyn’s final record of 26-56 ended up being their worst since 2016-17 when they only won 20 games as the worst team in the league.

But there were glimpses of hope to hold on to.

Head coach Jordi Fernandez had this team playing with direction and determination. They always played hard. That’s about all you can ask for a team with a preseason Over/Under of 19.5.

Dammit if they didn’t already have some of the 2018-19 Nets vibes flowing early.

Just like the Clippers, the Nets are so much better suited to be the scrappy underdogs than the front-running bimbos.

Additional Notes

  • On a random Saturday night in late-February, Nic Claxton, the masked man, hit a game-winning put-back tip-in buzzer beater in Philly to hammer home the final nail in the coffin for the Sixers season.

  • The Cam’s — Johnson and Thomas — both had stellar stretches and numerous injuries.

  • The other Johnson, Keon Johnson, proved himself with playing time.

  • D-Lo returned back home. The prodigal son.

  • Drew Tiemme even got some run at the end of the season after dropping 50 points in the G League (!!).

Did our preseason Over/Under prediction hit?

No hesitation. Under 19.5 wins.

Nets 2024-25 record: (26-56)

NOPE. It’s usually the ones that feel the easiest that never end up hitting.

What’s Next?

  • Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR first-round draft picks: No. 8, No. 19 from the Bucks, No. 26 from the Rockets and No. 27 from the Knicks.

  • The Nets are projected to have about $45 million in cap space this summer. Now if only there were any good free agents out there.

  • Just keep the good, scrappy underdog vibes flowing.

Favorite Nets Highlight of the 2024-25 Season:

Twas Thanksgiving Eve and Tyrese Martin (WHO HE!?) torched the Suns for 30 points on 8-of-10 shooting from 3!!! He had previously scored 31 points in his career total.
